Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 directorial work will start soon as James Gunn is almost done with DC’s The Suicide Squad. While Disney firing James Gunn and hiring him back was bound to happen, the only thing it managed to do was delay the movie. However, Gunn has already finished the script for Guardians Vol 3 and it won’t be affected by Avengers: Endgame as it was written keeping the connection in mind.

In a recent Instagram Q&A session, the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 director revealed a lot of information for his upcoming movie and how the main focus of the story will be on Star-Lord and Mantis. Here is what James Gunn revealed in the social media questionnaire about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and hints on the possible release date and filming schedule.

James Gunn replied to one of the fans and said that he likes to write the story arcs of Nebula and Rocket in the Guardians franchise. However, Gunn also added that there are great things coming up for Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff).

The director also revealed that the story arcs of the main characters aren’t limited to a single movie and will span across all the three Guardians movie. Also, when someone asked what would Yondu (Michael Rooker) return in Guardians Vol 3, James Gunn strictly declined it saying that dead characters won’t return in his movies as the stakes are really important.

James Gunn is currently busy directing The Suicide Squad and as soon as he will be free, his work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will be started. It is expected that filming will start in late 2020 or 2021 and would take around a year to complete. It means that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 release date could be somewhere in 2022 or 2023 but Marvel has not revealed its future slate for now.
