Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will come out in theaters soon as the sequel as officially confirmed now and director Jeff Fowler will also return. Even the Sonic movie received a lot of backlash in the beginning over the titular character design, the makers decided to change it and delayed the movie for that. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has been announced but that doesn’t mean production on the movie will start anytime soon. The entire Hollywood industry is halted at the moment due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and filming for major projects won’t start until the end of this year. Based on the time taken by the first movie, Sonic sequel would take around 1 to 2 years as the extra time in changing the character design won’t be wasted for the second movie.
Fans can expect Sonic the Hedgehog sequel release date to be around 2022 or 2023 when the movie releases in theaters. Sonic 2 trailer could come out early though as Sega would love to maintain the hype of the sequel and it is not necessary to contain footage as it could be just an announcement trailer.
