Season 4 of “Stranger Things” was confirmed after season 3’s heartbreaking finale. While fans are definitely unable to contain their excitement for season 4, they have expressed their desire for return of Jim Hopper since he is believed to have died when in Starcourt shopping mall’s basement, he was trapped in the enclosure which contained the machine which sealed the door Upside Down, ultimately exploding.
A teaser that was unveiled by Netflix shows that Hopper (David Harbour) lives, and fans are celebrating! However, Hopper seems to be in bad shape as he is shown to be a prisoner in Russia. Revelations are yet to be made about how he ended up in a country so far away from Hawkins.
The trailer also suggested that “Stranger Things” season will probably move the story out of Hawkins to some other location. This other location, going by the trailer, is most likely going to be Russia. A comment from the showmakers mentions that the location will be a “snowy wasteland” this time.

“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on ‘Stranger Things’ season 4 is now underway — and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper!” Duffers was quoted as saying. “Although it’s not all good news for our ‘American’; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human and others.”
Hopper’s backstory
Hopper reveled some major spoilers during the Liverpool ComiCon that happened between March 6 to 8. He hinted that season 4 features his backstory in which Hopper’s secrets will be divulged. A total of 3 secrets are expected to be uncovered, and these could be about the 3 boxes found by Eleven in the attic of their home, and each one labeled – “Vietnam”, “New York”, “dad.”

“Stranger Things” Season 4 Release Date
Filming for season 4 was in process until March, after which the COVID-19 pandemic brought the world to a standstill. It is uncertain when the filming will resume, and hence not much conclusion can be drawn about the release date at this point in time.
