Top Gun: Maverick is the official name for the sequel 1986 movie Top Gun starring Tom Cruise in the leading. The sequel of this action movie centered on the lives of fighter pilots was in development for around 10 years and after a lot of delays, has a new release date of June 26, 2020.

It is when Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw – Rooster (Miles Teller) who is the son of his late best friend Lt. Nick Bradshaw – Goose (Anthony Edwards). Rooster blames Maverick for the death of his father and the plot of Top Gun: Maverick will revolve around their confrontation and the problems arising in the whole training sessions and flights due to that.

Top Gun: Maverick title kind of confirms that the movie will have the character of Maverick played by Tom Cruise as the main center of attraction. Even the makers have kind of hinted that the story of Top Gun sequel will be about Maverick and giving closure to his story.
There are some theories which predicts that Tom Cruise as Maverick will sacrifice his life to save Rooster in one of the final battle scene, and thus clearing his name and proving that he never intended the death of Goose. Maverick dying at the end of Top Gun 2 movie would be a nice ending and a proper sendoff to the character.
