Ulster County Commissioner of Health and Mental Health, Doctor Carol Smith shared, the residents should take all the necessary precautions to counter these diseases carried by ticks. These ticks tend to attack during outdoor activities. People should vigilantly protect themselves and their pets from tick bite.

Apart from that she strongly recommends the usage of insect or mosquito repellent creams. Repellent creams containing DEET are preferred.

CDC informed the common symptoms of the patient affected by the Powassan virus. The frequently found symptoms include,
- Fever
- Headache
- Vomiting
- Loss of coordination
- Memory loss
- Speech problems
