Successful testing of Five-Seater Air-Taxi Prototype by Lilium

Almost 20 years ago no one would have ever imagined taxi’s flying over your heads. But a startup is in the race of developing a flying-taxi. Lilium which is a Munich-based startup company has revealed a five-seater prototype of an “air-taxi”.

Well, this is not the first time that the company has taken its steps in the sky. However, this is the first time that a five-seater air-taxi prototype vehicle has taken off and landed successfully.

This air-taxi prototype gets power by 36 all-electric engines. With the help of these engines, the vehicle can take-off vertically and also land vertically. The prototype has a range of 300 km and a maximum speed of 300Km/h. The company claims that the jet they have developed is capable of completing longer journeys.

The launch was conducted on 4th May 2019 at the local time of 08:03 of Munich, Germany. This jet is controlled remotely from the ground. The company says that the machine will now undergo many rigorous tests to match to the safety standards of a commercial aircraft.

Supported by 36 engines the vehicle can fly at 300Km/h

According to the company, its milestone is to achieve a transition flight system. In this system, the jet can move from vertical takeoff to horizontal flight.

The CEO of the company says that Lilium expects to be fully operational in many cities of the world by the year 2025.
